For those of you who know me, you are not surprised I do not agree with this blogger and the whole editorial bent of USA Today. It fails to address the fact that Arms Rooms within the Army are a necessary evil because as a culture the Army is into tight controls. In a truly open society such as Israel, tight controls are not needed. Simply put, you are accountable for what you do and what you fail to do.
This blogger also fails to address that American Society as a whole no longer really has as core value the concept of "personal responsibility." For the past 30 to 50 years the liberal progressive would want to blame things and not the individual...because we are all victims. It is all part of the agenda of the left to destroy every icon, value, belief and symbol of what makes America great. Your status and justification for your rage and failure to move ahead is supposedly not your fault....at least how the Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton would have you believe. Victim status is given to almost everyone, that is of course unless you are an older white Christian male and then you are always the perpetrator.

LTC Thomas Tennant - Enemies of the US drool at the prospects of increasing gun control while decreasing civil liberties. They want us to cower and shudder... and each time we do, they win.
And to your point, I have no confidence in extended firearm legislation. However, I would support laws that reinforce personal accountability... or, at least, enforcing such legislation already in place.

I well-remember my first day on the firing range. We had already learned everything we needed to know about our weapons. How they worked. How to disassemble and reassemble them, blindfolded. How to clear a jam. How to clean them. How to carry them. How to salute with them. But when we got on the firing line, we weren't even issued ammunition until the range officer established control.
"On my command, place your weapon on the ground with the muzzle leaning on the wooden stake and pointing down range, and with the stock between your feet. Return to the position of attention."
Now matter how well we followed his orders, it wasn't good enough and we had to repeat them several times. It was all about control.
Even in combat, especially in combat, we had fields of fire and fire discipline. Fire and maneuver was carefully regimented and practiced. Each of us knew what to do and what to expect.
When returning to base camp, I stood at the head of the line and inspected each man's weapon to insure it was cleared before passing the wire.
Inside the base camp, outside every tent and hooch, there was a red bucket filled with sand where you dry-fired your weapon to insure it wasn't going to be discharged accidentally.
Some would call that gun control. I call if discipline. In the beginning the range officers used control to teach us discipline.
How will we discipline civilians. There's only one way actually. Make them responsible, hold them responsible. It will be in their self-interest to be responsible or they will lose their freedom.
That should be evident to all, but nothing is ever evident to anyone trapped in the throes of hysteria. All thought processes shut down and they are driven by fear and fear alone. Should we pay the price for their fear?

Funny but we carried locked and loaded 24/7 in Vietnam. On and off base we were always armed. I can’t remember a single negligent discharge, assault or murder through my two tours from Danang to Ke Sanh. I believe the Constitution and Bill of Rights gives is the right to protect ourselves and to me that means Contitutional Carry, open or concealed.

Bravo sir! Our first instinct when attacked by a murderous terrorist inspired by ISIS should not be to restrict our precious rights and liberties. Why don't Anti-Gun Liberals call for restrictions on the First Amendment and only on the Second amendment? Because the Second Amendment and its rights for individuals to bear and keep arms is not a right they give a shit about, since they hate guns and by extension those who own them and most liberals will never buy or own or posses a gun.
So we give haters and hate groups an almost unlimited license to spout their hate speech that inspires attacks on gays, Jews, minorities, immigrants, whomever they hate and despise, and yet the Liberal Anti-Gun folks would never call for greater restrictions of hate speech, but they are quick to roll back someone's fundamental constitutional rights to bear and keep arms and to buy an AR-15 or similar semi-auto, center-fire rifle for hunting or self-defense that accepts a detachable magazine which is now what California calls an "Assault rifle."

Why would anyone who knows anything about firearms believe that an AR-15 is an appropriate weapon for home self defense? Fortunately, most gun nuts don’t realized the sleek, black, sexy guns they see at pawnshops and gun shows are defective. That’s why you read so many reports about active shooters whose weapons malfunction. Bent or burned out barrels, defective extractors, defective repackaged Chinese-made ammunition, and the list is endless.
