This will be welcome news if it is achieved without penalty to those non-recipients.

I agree with the goal but not the means. If he would reverse the bankruptcy prohibition and take other steps, there is a cheaper way out of this mess where those that did not take out the loans are not penalized. Some of this started in the 1970's and 1980's when more and more Corporations placed a requirement of a college degree on white collar jobs (they did that because high school graduate standards fell to the point where they were no longer qualified for office work right out of high school). I think that can be reversed as well in some cases and let folks get tuition reimbursement via their employer for the degree if the employer requires it. Tighten up high school education standards, reduce the overall cost of college, etc, etc.

Why am I supposed to pay off someone else's debt, are they going to help me pay my mortgage. I paid my student loans off, that was one reason why I joined the military to get the student loan repayment they offered.

Good point. We the taxpayers are paying for everything and everyone, even all immigrants with Healthcare, SS, unemployment benefits, etc. and it seems like everything we are paying for helps everyone but us, at least in my case.

This is what happens when the government gets involved in the free enterprise system. The Law of Unintended Consequences is not the exception. IT IS THE RULE.
The government increased demand for college educations by guaranteeing loans, but did nothing to increase supply. That drove the price of college educations up. Making the loans bigger. Increasing the debt associated with getting that college education. See the pattern here.
The Republicans are the party of big government. The Democrats are the party of BIGGER government. Stop the madness. Get government out of the private sector.

Great point but easier said than done because so many get so much from the Government that they would never let that happen.
