My recruiter told me that I would be able to come home on the weekends while at basic training. I believed him because ....why would he lie?? LOL!!!!
Anyway Saturday morning the first weekend of basic I approached the drill SGT and told him when are we going to be released to go home for the weekend? DS looked at me and said ,"Son you ain't going home....you are home!!!"

Too funny! Gotta love the USMC!

Here's something I remember telling young prospects when I was an USAF Recruiter in the 1970s:

"So, you got a 98 QT on the ASVAB! Congratulations. What? The Army recruiter told you that you can have any job you want with that score? Let me tell you about the real deal on ASVAB QT scores. Do you know the lowest QT score that each branch will take to allow you to join up? No? Listen to this. The USAF requires a minimum QT score of 45...and that's dumb as a rock! The Marines and the Navy will take a score of 21...and the Army will take you if you scored at least an 11. Now, I know you're thinking what's this got to do with me...after all, you just scored a 98, right? You're smart and you're likely to go far..but think about this for a minute...how would you feel if your boss in the Army was one of those guys that only scored an 11? Yeah...that's what I thought. How about we schedule you to go to the MEPS for the USAF...what works better for you, tomorrow or Friday?"

I stole loads of applicants from the Army using this approach. ;-)

HAHAHA!! When I was a recruiter we would only take a 35 or better. One month I got an award for recruiting 4 people to the Indiana National Guard! I f the went to MEPS for me and failed the ASVAB on the hour ride home I talked them into the Guard and would drop them off at the guard recruiters office.

The area I was responsible for was approximately 2,000 square miles in the San Joaquin Valley in and around Fresno CA. Many times I would get up at oh dark thirty to drive across the valley to give an applicant a ride to the Fresno MEPS for testing. If they didn't score well enough for the USAF, I'd ask the Army recruiters next door to give them a ride home... This arrangement worked out well...Army got about an hour of one-on-one time with a qualified (for them) applicant and I didn't have to waste my time driving an unqualified (for us) applicant back home 80 miles (round-trip) across the valley.

My National Guard recruiter guaranteed me a spot in RASP after I finished AIT... The guard doesn't send people to RASP.
