I was in the Fort Detrick PX last week and browsed among the medals and ribbons and noticed that the Purple Heart ribbon is for sale but not the medal SP5 Mark Kuzinski. I checked online at the Military Exchange and confirmed that the ribbon is for sale but not the medal.

To me it makes no sense to make it illegal to sell a purple heart. For those service members who have died after being awarded a Purple Heart, their descendants should be able to dispose of their medals or keep them as seems best.
