Which side is right?
Answer: none of them are. The goal should be to eliminate those factions hell-bent on chaos (ISIS, Al-Nusra/Khorasan/ Al Queda) and get the rest to figure out a peaceful transition of power to a duly elected government. Probably will take a power sharing agreement to pull off.
Note what appear to be conflicts of interests in the attached chart, actually are more in line with their national interests. Everyone is on their own team, not "Us, them and Assad".
Notice who is not attacking ISIS, who is not fighting Al Queda, and who is not fighting Assad. It is informative.
As a CA guy, I visualize in terms of relationship charts like this one.

I Like the graphic. But I have to take it with a BIG grain of salt. The "Source" of the graphic is CNN. Unfortunately, they have lied to us many times and need to earn their respect/validity back.

It is pretty much on target, as far as my own research shows. I understand the trepidation on the source, though.
There are a couple more factions on the ground as well, but this is pretty comprehensive.
