A sad story for sure but not really ours to solve. We can and should try to help resolve the Syrian civil war as quickly as possible and we should work with leaders in the region to set up camps and provide funding to improve conditions. Too many in that region shrug their shoulders and do nothing. Assad was/is bad but Syria is in a complete state of breakdown and they needto fix it.

I have differ on your 1st sentence. When you see a country falling apart due to leadership, no it comes back to basic knowledge. Think of gang members and why they follow the bad, and not the good? It is the only life they know from the beginning, or the only way to survive. We are all animals with the gift of thought, and the ability to analyze a given situation on our base knowledge. Food for thought. Start at the bottom, and work your way up, not down!

The folks in Syria were not "following" Assad, he was forcing his will on them through intimidation, force and holding all of the power (political and military). Their choices are to mount a serious rebellion to get rid of him or learn to live with it. For decades they have lived with the Assads (him and his father). I am not sure how you are disagreeing wit me exactly. Are you suggesting we need to go solve this for the Syrians? If so, how.
