On one level this news story is encouraging in the ongoing battle against ISIS/ISIL. Troubling is that this is the Assad regime backed by Russian airstrikes. The damage to the historical sites done by ISIS is very similar to the ethnic cleansing they have done in other parts of Iraqi. All told, this is another thing that Obama and Clinton have to answer for when added to what many are calling a failed strategic and foreign policies. COL Tom Lewis

That is great news LTC Thomas Tennant. It was sad to see the images of ISIL destroying parts of the ancient city and understanding that they were carrying off what they could sell on the black market and destroying and desecrating the rest.
Hopefully the Syrian Army will develop units which are consistent in their prosecution of war against ISIL. One day I hope the Iraqi Army will follow suit.
