Always seems to be one talking and point or number cruncher point. Neither have been to concern with being right over the years - more concerned as to being heard and being funded. Why would anyone assume that Australia is anything other than a US ally? I get the talking points - however.. it is but thinking out loud. War with China is not anything anyone wants. However - a PRC attack on Taiwan is war.. plain and simple.
What happened in the last week with the elections in Taiwan set the PRC back to the start block - its efforts in IW in TW have not made the gains they thought could be made... the opposite occurred.. their actions in HK galvanized the youth of TW. Number crunchers will always tell you TW is so heavily out gunned it would be a walkover for the PRC. Those same guys told the Iraqs that about Mosul too... and there were only 6000-12000 IS fighters that held off 12 times their number... Terrain never factors into number crunchers facts... and the will to fight is now there in TW like never been seen before. So attacking it is not as likely an option as it was but 20 years back. The chances of tactical success rank up there with that of the last major German offensive of the war...... possible - but at the destruction of the PLA itself....
