Ted Cruz was among six Republicans who voted against a bill on Wednesday that would strengthen federal efforts to end rampant anti-Asian hate crimes in America.
An overwhelming majority of senators voted to advance the legislation directing the Justice Department to "facilitate the expedited review" of hate crimes against Asian communities.
But six Republicans — Texas senator Mr Cruz, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Josh Hawley from Missouri, Rand Paul from Kentucky, Tommy Tuberville from Alabama, and Roger Marshall from Kansas — voted against it.

WOW...that's all you got? I will tell you I have lived in the northern tier and have seen and experienced more blatant racism than in the South. Just one example is that I had an African American recruiter in a small town in Ohio. The way they were treated, his wife left because she was afraid for her life. A potential recruit came in and said can I speak to TSgt x. My recruiter said that is me what can I do for you...the potential recruit stepped back and said well if that is the Air Force I won't join and work for "N". My recruiter walked him out by every other recruiting office, all services, and told them what happened and they all escorted him to the door and told him to never come back. We ended up having to remove that recruiter because of numerous racial threats and rallies. We closed that recruiting station all together. Something similar happened in WV, PA, Maryland, and New York...the south does not have a monopoly on this.
