South of Cape Horn (South America), there are no land masses to stop the energy of waves, all the way around the world at that longitude. As a result, giant waves circle the globe regularly. Not 20m, mind you, but giant in comparison to the rest of the oceans.

I never got seasick, but we were tasked to head near the Cape on one of my cruises. I was sincerely scared, and unbelievable happy when I had to leave before we got there!!!
As an OOD, have seen the messages come out about these big waves, luckily never run into any (no pun intended)!

That would be a serious problem for any ship at sea. I hope to never see one.

Big ships would likely be ok so long as their bow was into it. Broadside? Dead.

Pretty sure that most Navy ships could make it, but it would be difficult. There is a reason that submariners laugh at us!!!
