Texas airports get ready for state’s new 'open carry' gun law

Airports in Texas are posting signs and issuing memos in advance of the state’s new “open carry” law, which goes into effect tomorrow, Jan. 1, 2016.
The law allows legally licensed handgun owners to openly carry a holstered gun in public but, as the Houston Airport System notes, “there still are some restrictions in certain locations, including at airports.
It's not ok to carry a small knife past security, but now, in Texas it's ok to walk around with a licensed gun on your hip. I wasn't aware 44 states already allow open gun carry at airports. Amazing!

SGT (Join to see) This does not change the requirement that weapons are not allowed outside of common areas. Weapons cannot be in the area beyond security and procedures regarding the transportation of weapons on airlines has not changed. Travelers must still:
1. Comply with regulations on carrying firearms where you are traveling from and to, as laws vary by local, state and international governments.
2. Declare all firearms, ammunition and parts to the airline during the check-in process. Ask about limitations or fees that may apply.
3. Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. Firearm parts, including firearms frames and receivers, must also be placed in checked baggage and are prohibited in carry-on baggage.
4. Replica firearms may be transported in checked baggage only.
5. Rifle scopes are permitted in carry-on and checked bags.
6. All firearms, ammunition and firearm parts, including firearm frames, receivers, clips and magazines are prohibited in carry-on baggage.

Bob you state that TSA does not allow black powder or percussion caps. Is that a TSA regulation or a regulation of the FAA? You wouldn't be taking credit for some other agencies regulations right? And while we are on the subject of TSA regulations exactly what is TSA regulation, SOP, MD, or other directives regarding the screening of medical nitroglycerin?

Same thing here in Arizona. I can carry (openly and/or concealed) into an airport, I just can't enter a secure location.

As far as I know, open carry will not be allowed past the secure checkpoints, just ticketing and baggaging areas. The same rule applied having a CHL prior to the new law since it is licensed possession. At least that's what our CHL instructor told us here in the Dallas area.
