I am curious why somebody thought it would be a great idea to add yet another caliber weapons to our infantry arsenal which includes 5.56. 7.62, 9 mm, .50 caliber, 25mm, and 30mm rounds already SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
As an infantryman I don't think it makes sense for troops to carry around yet another caliber of rounds.

LTC Stephen Ford, new calibers come out as improvements over the existing calibers, and eventually either replace them or sink into obscurity. The 7.62 replaced the .30-06 which was a perfectly fine caliber for many decades. The 9mm seems to have replaced the .45 ACP, and the .223/5.56 has created a new niche for itself.

I agree that an unnecessary complication of the supply chain is a problem, but changes are inevitable as new advances are made.

Personally, I still like the .30-06 and the .45 better than their replacements, but then I'm not humping ammo downrange, either.
