I can not express enough how badly the Vietnam Veterans were treated. Mark that as a dark lesson we learned in our country's history.

In 2005, the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association had it's annual reunion in San Francisco. A bunch of us were standing outside one morning, minding our business when a woman walked by and started yelling at us, "babykillers, babykillers". No one wanted to expend the energy to chase after her. I refuse to go back to California and would be glad to the whole state slid into the Pacific Ocean;

LTC Gary Earls - Where else but in ComieFornia Gary. I thought those days were long behind us. I flew door gunner whenever I could in Nam. I wanted to do it full time but my requests kept getting turned down. Spent most of my time with aviation, 16th Combat Aviation Group and 101st Aviation Battalion. Thanks for your service.

Little did we know that we destroyed the emotional and mental bridges for them to return from Vietnam. We stole their innocence then stole their pride.

PO3 Bob McCord - If they did come back alive their innocence was taken away from them. Some came back with broken hearts, minds, spirits, and bodies. Often they spent the rest of their lives trying to forget the war. Many remained broken in their wandering in the world.
