A really great story. It reminds me of another I've been putting off telling for some time. One day while living in Hawaii (I was stationed there after serving a tour of duty in Vietnam) heavy rains caused a mud slide and a Japanese warplane slid onto the Pali Highway. No one knew it had been lurking in the jungle since the attack on Pearl Harbor. It got me to thinking, what happened to the pilot? I began researching the pilots of all the Japanese warplanes that had been shot down in the attack. There were some very interesting stories. My favorite was of one that was hit over Pearl Harbor and was able to make it to Kauai where it crashed in a cane field. A young Hawaiian who had heard about the attack on the radio ran into the field and killed the pilot with his bare hands after he had been shot by the pilot several times. The young Hawaiian survived to be treated to many meals and drinks as long as he kept repeating his story. My plan was to fictionalize the account of the pilot of this warplane that had appeared in the mud slide. Maybe he owns a saimin stand on Waikiki Beach...
