There is no logic in mistreatment of our Armed Forces. It always confuses me. I respect our service men and women, as should every other American.

Fortunately, the anti-war efforts these days typically separate the war and the soldier. Certainly nothing even close to what the Vietnam Era troops had to endure coming home.

I wasn't alive to see the mistreatment of our Vietnam veterans, but I have heard stories. Comparably things do seem better on that front these days. It almost seems that citizens direct more negativity to law enforcement these days, but that is another conversation altogether.

Genevieve Walters - Indeed. A very long and involved conversation. But yes, I've heard the same stories you have, and the treatment of our returning Vietnam vets was abhorrent. And a lot of them still remember. Making it through a horrific war just to be spat on by their own countrymen. It was sick.

SSgt Ryan Sylvester - It's up to the rest of us to do better now and in the future.

Even back then as an eight year old, I hated hippies. Reading this just makes me weep that some of these dolts who couldn't take care of themselves for three days are now some of the people trying to tell us how to live our lives.

I don't think all of us hippies turned out bad. Of course, I wasn't a hardcore hippie, as I was still a senior in high school during Woodstock. Actually, I was probably more of a young punk than a hippie. But, I would have gone to Woodstock if I could have. However, it was too far from where I lived (Bay Area), I was still in school, and I had no way to get there. :(

MAJ Don Bigger I will tell you that I was a punk and rode a Greyhound bus to San Francisco to see the Sex Pistols at the Winterland Ballroom in 1978. Shining times, they were!

Dear American Citizens. You may not like us, you may shout hatred at us and what you think we represent, but when you are in dire need, we will be there for you and defend your existence. Because that's what we do. Sincerely, the United States Armed Forces
