The USAF was not exactly given a choice in the matter.

True, since congresswoman Martha McSally made sure in the legislation that there be no back way for the A-10 Warthog to be canceled. I feel happy because I've been reading all these stories about that stupid Brazilian design light aircraft that they think could take the place of the A-10 Warthog in a low threat environment. I think that is really bad or stupid because all it takes is somebody to pull out a 50 caliber or 12.7 mm machine gun and that super Tucano aircraft is going to be a super small hole in the ground burning with a dead pilot. All I hear is super Tucano this and super Tucano that and to hear this story makes me happy!

I think the light attack Aircraft are a great idea to supplement the A-10 and fill the gap between the A-10 and Scout chopper. They can be fielded on large numbers .

You do not need a sledgehammer for every task and even with new wings the A-10 is a limited resource.
