Good “Thursday!” Morning “Burroughs’ Posse from the anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm "Elsa", which is due to slam us sometime during the day on Friday in the Greater Boston area... Cape Cod and the Islands will be especially hit hard based on the current storm track... Have a great Thursday, my friend...

Today is: “Long-Term Thinking Day!” Why Not?

"Innovation comes from long-term thinking and iterative execution." - Reid Hoffman

"Long-term success is the result of relationships built on a foundation of trust. People get more value from those they trust." - Garrison Wynn

"In the organization of any major sporting event or the planning of a building, long-term thinking is key." - Richard Attias

"Social media requires that business leaders start thinking like small-town shop owners. This means taking the long view and avoiding short-term benchmarks to gauge progress. It means allowing the personality, heart and soul of the people who run all levels of the business to show." - Gary Vaynerchuk

"Long term thinking and planning enhances short term decision making. Make sure you have a plan of your life in your hand, and that includes the financial plan and your mission." - Manoj Arora

Be it known that most...

“Great leaders will invest in people and resources by thinking about the long-term future of the team and organization.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

I expect that you have invested considerable time, talent and resources into your future, the future of your loved ones, and your responsibilities in stewardship as a leader. No doubt you realize we live moment by moment with memories of the past and hopes and possibly anxiety about the future. It is wise to comprehend that God loves each of us more than we can imagine and HE is working all to good for HIS own. The work HE began in salvation and justification for each of us will be completed in HIS perfect timing. 'And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus.' [Philippians 1:6] my brother-in-Christ Sgt (Join to see).

I pray for endurance in doing good for others, compassion as we listen to others, and wisdom as we provide advice to others for each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or listens to this prayer dear LORD. I am thankful that YOU provide YOUR fruit to each of us since YOU know when, where and how YOUR fruit will bless others. I pray that you and I are blessed by the LORD with a vision aligned with HIS plan for the future for each of us and those we love. ‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.’ [Jeremiah 29:11-13 ESV]
Remember it is never too late to begin planning for the future and making decisions to affect the future. It is wise to demonstrate your thinking, planning and actions to affect the future in the presence of those you lead especially children. Hopefully you and I will be increasingly transparent as we share what we have learned and experienced to encourage and prepare those we lead. LORD enable us to lift those we lead to stand on our shoulders in terms of benefitting from interacting with us for time and eternity. YOU meet our daily needs and fulfil desires in this lifetime. YOU are the perfectly jealous and patient God WHO demonstrates patience to allow all to come to repentance. 'Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” [Hebrews 3:12-15 ESV]
I lift young people including our children/grandchildren, new recruits to military service, recruits to police and firefighter service, and those embarking on new careers of all sorts to YOU. I pray YOU bless each with hope in YOU and that YOU guide them step-by-step through their experiences. Help them to learn vicariously from parents, teachers, trainers, history and especially YOUR Word. ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.’ [Romans 15:13-14 ESV] I am thankful that YOU prepare each of us for what we will experience in the future. YOU know all things and YOU sanctify each of us and refill the fruit of the Spirit as YOU guide us to bless others with YOUR fruit. ‘And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.’ [Romans 8:27-28 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Thursday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Friday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Good morning Col Burroughs and all the rest of my RP family. Today, as in the past, people tend to think in the short term. They have so much made available to them, that they seldom think about the long term affects of not being prepared, by long term thinking. This is true in the secular and spiritual side of life. I found something today from Pastor Rick Warren that addresses this theme and hope you enjoy it. Have a blessed day today and always.

Short-term Thinking Keeps You from Seeing Clearly - Daily Hope with Rick Warren - July 9, 2016

Short-term Thinking Keeps You from Seeing Clearly
By Rick Warren
“His followers discussed the meaning of this, saying, ‘He said this because we have no bread.’ Knowing what they were talking about, Jesus asked them, ‘Why are you talking about not having bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your minds closed?’” (Mark 8:16-17 NCV)
We miss what God is doing in our lives when we remain focused on the here-and-now and not what God wants to do in our lives long-term. When we think about comfort rather than character, when we think about our happiness and not our holiness, when we think about enjoying life now instead of preparing for eternity, we’re caught up in short-term thinking, and it will keep us from seeing life clearly.
This is what happened with the disciples. Jesus was trying to teach them a lesson about pride by using yeast as a metaphor. The Bible says in Mark 8:16-17, “His followers discussed the meaning of this, saying, ‘He said this because we have no bread.’ Knowing what they were talking about, Jesus asked them, ‘Why are you talking about not having bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your minds closed?’” (NCV)
Jesus was trying to teach the disciples a lesson about life, and they thought he was talking about lunch! He was talking about the need for maturity, and they were talking about their next meal. That’s short-term thinking.
Short-term thinking keeps us from seeing how God is working in our lives. It’s one of the great weaknesses of American culture. It’s hard to think long-term today because everything in our society teaches you to do the opposite. We rob the future to enjoy today. We’re setting up years and years of unpayable debt to future generations so we can do what we want now.

Whenever you’re thinking short-term, you can’t see what God’s doing in your life. You can’t see his long-range plans for your character when you’re just thinking about your own comfort. Ask God to give you a glimpse into eternity and to help you see the hope we can have when we see his long-term plan.

“In the long run, long-term thinking will achieve greater results because of the investment you make today. Think strategically when it comes to big projects and what the second and third order effects of your decisions you make today will affect tomorrow – that leads me to this quote…

‘Plan in decades. Think in years. Work in months. Live in days.” — Unknown Author

May you engage in long-term thinking on a regular basis when planning for your future; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a continued bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs
