Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. I was wondering where you were going with that topic choice this morning. I've chosen to take it forward.
It's fine to learn from our past mistakes but don't chain yourself to your past. And as a leader, you have to march forward and project forward as well; people will not follow someone who doesn't seem to be able to watch the road ahead. Too often we are solving and resolving yesterday's problems instead of seeing today's opportunities. You can't change what's already done; the key is to move on to new challenges with yesterday's experience in your pocket.
P.S. I have to admit, the last one is really who I am

I have to say though, when on actual combat patrols, you better be looking over your shoulder all the time to make sure that soldier is still behind you or when the patrol stops, make sure all are in the prone. We had rules in Vietnam, long exposures would get you killed. In triple canopy jungle, we would take a knee whenever we stopped, always keeping a low profile! Mike most likely was just referring to a normal day situation, shopping, or even walking. People with PTSD will always be on the alert, no matter what!
