Good morning Col Burroughs. I agree with you on this. It is important that we find ways to inspire and bring together. I prefer the pull to the push. Pulling makes people feel as though you are also invested in their success and well being.
For ourselves, it is okay to push to get where we need to be. However, it is much easier if you can get some mentor or supervisor to help with a bit of a "tug"

I definitely ‘see’ that positive quality in you Ma’am! I wish I had more real leaders when I was Active Duty, I probably would have stayed in longer...Lt Col Charlie Brown

I expect that your motivational encouragement of those who serve with, lead, and share common interests with has helped pull people together in challenging times. In these challenging times endurance in doing good is a blessing. I hope that our behavior and conduct is above reproach as people trust us to guide them. 'For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.’ [Titus 1:7-9 ESV] my sister-in-Christ Lt Col Charlie Brown.
I pray that you and I lean heavily on the LORD and trust HIM and HIS Word in all circumstances. I pray for and increase of courage of conviction and endurance in doing good for others as a demonstration of love. I pray for an increase of compassion, patience and goodness LORD for each one of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads this prayer. 'Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.' [James 1:2-4 ESV]
I lift the widows, widowers, prisoners and their family members, orphans, and missing in action service members to YOU LORD. YOU know their deepest desires. I pray that YOU release abundant joy to each one of these people and motivate people to bless each one. ‘Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.' [James 1:27-28 ESV]
I pray for peace and good will among the deployed service members and their family members at home. LORD I pray for open communications between children and adults as Christmas approaches. LORD guide us intercessors to pray earnestly for these families and single service embers serving our nation.’ Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.’ [Psalm 23:4-5 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Saturday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Sunday morning.

I have never looked at having goals as pushing but reading the quotes I see the correlation. I have always aspired to do better and improve myself at the same time. Never stop striving and pushing- any long distance runner or biker can tell you that you have to dig deep at times.

Maj Marty Hogan being a former runner myself I'm sure you understand the concept of pushing brother.... have a great day...
“There is a big difference in leadership between pushing too hard or pushing people out verses pulling them up to new levels of greatness. There is the push you need to give yourself to reach your goals and dreams. May you always push yourself to be the very best and pull those you are mentoring up to the next level; may you always shave the right attitude when you’re pulling those individual up and the right attitude when you’re pushing yourself to the next plateau; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy. As Booker T. Washington stated, ‘ There are two ways of exerting one’s strength: one is pushing down, the other is pulling up’. Push yourself and pull others along for the inspiration.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Good “Saturday” Morning “Burroughs’ Posse Leader from a storm battered Greater Boston Area as a Nor'easter passing through! it has been raining since yesterday afternoon and is now a steady hard rain here on the East Coast of Massachusetts, but that is changing later today as the temps drop and snow moves in... A heavy wet snow... Should be interesting... but we shall continue to "Push" ahead, Mikel...
“Pushing Day!” Why Not?
1) "One finds limits by pushing them." - Herbert Simon
2) "There's a storm inside of us, a burning river, a drive. You push yourself further than anyone could think possible. You are never out of the fight." - Marcus Luttrell (The Lone Survivor)
3) "The questions you ask consistently will create either enervation or enjoyment, indignation or inspiration, misery or magic. Ask the questions that will uplift your spirit and push you along the path of human excellence." - Tony Robbins
4) "The reason I don't retire is that I learn something new every day. The brain has to be exercised the same as the rest of the body. It's about expanding, constantly pushing yourself." - Clint Eastwood
5) "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently - they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." - Steve Jobs
When a person makes a decision to stop pushing forward, they relinquish their position of leadership, so remember...
“Great leaders will pull their team and organization with inspiration; they don’t push them out the door. They push themselves harder and lead by example – they push the boundaries of leadership!” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Sgt (Join to see) - That was during my first five years after active duty. I was already depressed, with no one to talk to about it. I lost my job when I was unconscious, since I didn't have prior approval to be off from work for three days or more. The engine in my van blew, coming home from work during a blizzard. I managed to keep it running, by having the hood up inside, and holding the distributor in position as OI drove he usual hour trip. It took eight hours, and a full tank of gas to get home. The high winds blew out the pilot light on the furnace, then the electric went out so the space heater wasn't helping. I was under a thick pile of blankets when I woke. I crawled down the stairs to go to the bathroom, and heard a pipe rupture under that floor. I had to crawl outside, and down into the basement to turn off the water, then I had to break a hole in a brick wall to get to the bad pipes while laying in near freezing mud. It was lines to the kitchen sink. I sealed the copper tubing, and turned the water back on.
Then I had to crawl back up the steps too the outside, around the house to a door and inside. I had re-lit the furnace, but it took days to warm the house back up because of the high winds. No food in the house, since the night of the blizzard was the time I went shopping on the way home. So, it was back to bed without eating, for enough several days. It was another week before I could walk. About 100 feet at a time. The grocery was a mile away, so it took all day to get a few cans of soup. I had no telephone, or anyone to ask for help so it took all day to get there and home. More than once, I considered just laying down in the snow and giving up. I lost my home because of this. No transportation, no phone and no address. Who would hire someone too sick to stand very long?

SPC Michael Terrell I can clearly see that you pushed yourself beyond that of the majority of men & women in the major countries in the world..., under a mountainous glacier of turmoil... I trust that you are long out of the turmoil and on an even keel at this point in your life..

Sgt (Join to see) - I never really recovered from that. I never got all my strength back, and I ended up 100% disabled in my mid 50s. That was over a decade ago. I have needed a cane to walk during that time, and spend a lot of time waiting for wounds on my legs to heal. I went from being able to pick up a V8 engine, to having trouble lifting five pounds, today. The depression is long gone, but I had never planned to retire. I would have been happy doing Electronics work that 'Can't be done outside of the factory', until the day I died. It shocked some people that I didn't want to retire early and travel. I can't stand to fish, and have no desire to go hunting. I'm not against those activities, but I thrived on challenges. The trouble with that was once a project or a repair was done, I lost interest in it. I've built a TV station. I built a kU band communications system for the ISS, and a pair of earth stations for the European Space Agency. I built a turnkey system for NOAA for Wallops Island to control their 100 foot dish, and to recover weather data from their Low Earth Orbit Satellites.
The TV station was a solo effort, while the other three were as part of the design and test team. I was soldering things by hand that our automated reflow system couldn't handle properly. That caused problems between Test and Production. I could out solder anyone in Production, but I had been doing it for 40 years. I lost that job, because the business was sold, and moved North. They only offered to keep some people from final test. The joke was on the new owners. The people the laid off when they moved could do things that new employees couldn't. Quality went down. Tooling had to be replaced, because it was damaged by new people. They missed deadlines. They offered some of the laid off money to go teach their replacements to do their old jobs. All but a few just laughed in their faces.
