Good morning Col Burroughs. I so agree with the concept of circumstances deciding where you begin but also not seeing yourself as a victim of them. If you are a victim, you make yourself powerless to change things. I grew up in the slums; my mother was a HS dropout. We often had no heat in the winter, and sometimes no running water. But my parents believed in education as a way out. I worked my way through technical school and college and ended up with two masters degrees. My sister holds both an RN and an MD. We changed our circumstances by not allowing ourselves to be the victims of them.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Great point about not being the victim of your circumstances Charlie - I've seen too many that feel that way and they can;t dign themselves out of the rut... Thanks for the additional quotes this morning and enjoy the rest of your weekend...

“Throughout our military careers (short or long) we’ve had to deal with all types of different circumstances, we’ve had to adapt, change our mindset, and solve a variety of challenges. This year in 2020 we’ve had to do that all over again whether you’re still serving, a veteran, or retired. The key is we can’t just throw in the towel, we must continue to persevere and fight through the circumstances we are dealt or face in the foreseeable future. No matter your current circumstance, may you find the opportunities that they may bring and take the positive actions you need to change and or take charge of the situation; may you always treat each circumstance with a positive attitude to see your way through it; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy during these uncertain times. ‘Change depends on circumstances, but choice depends on attitude.’ You make the choice and you’re in charge of creating a better set of circumstances.” – COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

My father never finished eighth grade. I was the first with my last name to finish high school, and many years later ended with a master's degree. My youngest son is a professor at a little liberal arts "rich kid" school out east. Your circumstances truly only determine where you start.

Remember, with a good attitude you can go anywhere, RallyPoint.

Good morning 1SG Steven Imerman I am not surprised you rose above your circumstances. I always considered mine to be my base, not my ceiling.
