The Knights Templar suffered their greatest defeat at the Horns of Hattin. In retrospect that defeat was due in large part to Templar arrogance and hubris coupled with Saladin's tactical prowess. It was the beginning of the end for the Templar presence in the Holy Land

But that end had years more to go.... and one heck of a final fight as well. But the arrogance of its leaders was directly part of what brought the war on in the first place.. and they should have known better as to the strategy of water...

It was like one of those moments when you get a whole flock of bad leaders in one place and at one time...and the real leaders - coming next and afterwards never have the resources those failed leaders had... a perfect storm of defeat through arrogance.
