Earp was the product of his times, neither all good nor all bad. He was. however his own best promoter. Much of what was written about him, especially by Stuart Lake, was almost all a figment of Earp's vivid imagination.

Hey, ain’t nothing wrong with a little self- promotion. I think most all lawmen and desperadoes in those days were so much hype and not much activity to show for it.
