This reminds me of President Lincoln's predicament when he needed a general who could deliver a victory. After appointing Grant to the job, some complained that Grant was an alcoholic. Lincoln responded that he wanted to know what Grant drank so he could send a case to each of his other generals.

Haha that's a great comparison. There are certainly jobs I would not want the person to be stoned for like flying a plane or fighting a war. Now having no experience with hacking myself I wonder if good hackers just happen to smoke weed, or if some are good hackers because they smoke weed.

SPC David Willis - Actually, that's a fallacy. There was a study a couple of decades ago in which musicians performed while stoned and while not. They swore they were better and more creative while stoned, but when presented with recordings of their sessions, they preferred those made while not stoned.

MSG Stan Hutchison - I competed on a lot of projects both as a programmer and an applications/systems architect and never worked stoned, yet invariably won. I didn't give a damn what someone did in their own time, but I wouldn't have them on any team working while stoned

CPT Jack Durish - Hm that's interesting, is there any research that looks at non performance creativity like song writing or literature? I would imagine it would be harder to strum the correct chord while stoned but there are so many creative artists across all medians that partake, particularly musicians and comedians.

When I was working for a Software Development Company in Orlando Florida we didn't smoke pot, ours was Red Bull, our lead coder put away so much that I would be going to the store about every couple of hours.
