A great story. The engine they stole sat in the B&O museum in Baltimore until Disney borrowed it to make the movie in Tennessee. On it's way back after filming, TN confiscated it as a historical relic of the state. The B&O lawyer sent to negotiate its return stumbled on an even greater treasure sitting in a junk yard near The General and arranged a sale in which TN purchased the General for cash plus this piece of iron he found. What he found was the prototype of the class of locomotive that the General and all other American 4-4-0 locomotives were built from. It now sits fully restored in the B&O museum. A much more valuable relic of American railroad history than The General.
