It's a shame that rather be known for her expertise and leadership capabilities, she's referenced as "The First Openly Gay...". I'd think for her to make flag rank, she must know her stuff forwards and backwards. I understand why sort of. She could be that beacon for the LGBT telling them that they too can do whatever they set their hearts to.

Thanks for alerting us that the first openly lesbian general Brig. Gen. Tammy Smith opened up about her thoughts on balancing military and personal values SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
I expect it took courage on her part to make this effort to communicate her values.
