Eliminate political parties altogether. Eliminate the labels. Get rid of PACs and National Committees. Get rid of lobbyists. If you get rid of those things then people will be forced to listen to what's being said and candidates will be forced to campaign on their individual reputations and achievements, not the letter next to their name. Eliminating the lobbyists could be a big blow to corruption and politicians leaving office 10 times richer than they were when they got elected.

The problem is that to do all those thing you would have to get rid of a sizable chunk of the Bill of Rights. with freedom of speech and freedom of association being necessary first casualties. Is worth it?

Having lived and experienced the ad hoc results of multi-party system in Latin America, I can assure you that there are serious hazzards with those as well. Case in point, Venezuela, where the two larger parties were experiencing so much infighting, Chavez slipped in. They've gone from a healthy democracy to a very sad state right now.

I. the US the same thing happened with a two party system and we got the choice between the corrupt and the insane and corrupt and the later slipped in.
We were left with two really bad choices, an alternative would have been nice.

In one of those cases, the infighting winthin one party resulted in one candidate taking advantage of situation and in the other party you had party leaders essentially circumvent the will of the party all together. A good alternative would have been nice but we all know that was unrealistic and even if it were possible, we run the risk of that process being taken advantage of.

They also tried to warn us about authoritarian populists taking over.
Seems we ignored both lessons.
