The author obviously has no idea of the AC/RC taskings. All RC units are CF CA units. But, we often support SOF units (Army and Navy) with CA taskings. As a CA BDE CSM, I have CAT-As deployed right now that are CF units working daily with SF units in our AOR. The author states that AC units don't use, or know how to use CA in their warfightng missions. He is correct because the BN/BDE/TF Cdr is focused on the kinetic fight. It is our duty to "sell" the importance of CA to the supported commander and become a force multiplier to his organization. Having sent CA Companies to every cycle of NTC and JRTC last year and again this year, I have seen the opposite of what the author states. My companies have integrated and excelled during EVERY CTC attended. People simply don't understand the capabilities of Reserve CA brought to the fight through the use of their civilian skill sets as well as their Soldier skills.

This is basically stating the same thing as CA 2025 did, saying we need to unify the CA corps, get a unified identity and the sort. The fact is we have this problematic rift between active and reserve CA, when we should be unified. Even looking just on the active side, we are the step-child in USASOC barely being a member. Well we need to find authorizations for this 1st SFC, I know, we'll remove all the 6th teams from the 95th and use that!....instead of finding authorizations across the field just steal from the non-kinetic branch.

I have full faith in my CA brothers to act out on SOFT sop's but with that being said we are a system of checks, balances and the government shut down has to come to a end this is dangers because of mix opinions about this wall and all the change in leader ship all the way around I think now we have one of the youngest congress that we have had since im not sure to be exact but I will do my best to resolve that if questioned and I'm trying not to be bias about the wall but the berlin wall keeps playing threw my mind so the use of soft tactics to insure the safety and stability of global security is no where near a bad idea in my opinion we need experienced professional with global networking insuring a global stable economy we have people like space x and NASA shooting to rebuild mars if we can keep the focus to the advancement of the human race as a whole building green, longer life, space travel, the revers effects of global warming, clean water, the study to defect diseases, education of the youth, new story's of hope and superhero. along with giving sharp class and suicide preventions, the effects of negligence. Of course things like the X-games and being outside and active being in sports we as a hole will be fine. What is your point of view SFC ?

PFC Peeples. The article IMO, was a good summary of current strengths and weaknesses caused in large part by the poorly analyzed decision to move CA from SOC to USARC. I hope that saner minds prevail and either an organization displayed by the author or a simple return of USACAPOC to SOF will be made and sooner rather than later.
It is good to have young soldiers who thirst for knowledge and are willing to obtain the education and experience required of a demonstrably qualified Civil Affairs Operator. I hope that your thirst for knowledge leads you to study the referenced article and what you learn from analyzing it leads you further to take courses in both civilian and military forums that will help you to be an effective contributor should you be deployed to a real world problem area. I can't speak to the demographics of young CA soldiers today, however in my time beginning in the mid 70's we had many junior soldiers and NCO's with both degrees and advanced degrees. Many chose to remain in the enlisted ranks, even though they could have applied for and received direct commissions. I have served on teams where the junior member of the team was the functional team leader due to his/her acknowledged superior functional knowledge required for mission success. A CA Operator learns from before the time s/he begins the training process until after s/he leaves because that is the type of professional that is required to effectively serve the team, the nation and the people of the nation to whom s/he is providing assistance. The ability to clearly articulate one's thoughts in a coherent format and content as well as demonstrating skills with features of a word processor such as "spell check" are skills that are necessary to every CA Operator at any level. I look forward to seeing your future comments that are both on point and delivered in such a manner.
