The art of the deal is getting the most possible from the elements of the negotiation. We MUST get a wall, e-verify, more ICE agents, end to chain migration and the lottery and a legally codified immigration standards document listing all specific required qualifications and all disqualifying elements

And after that is done, DACA residents can be issued a green card, until they go to the back of the line behind anyone from the nation from whence they came that is in line and waiting to immigrate legally. Note I said, when done on the first part. Since they have been here most of their lives, it should be easy for them to pass and gain citizenship and all that goes with it. All this contingent on their not committing any felonies, past or present.

Negotiation that start with nonnegotiable demands do not go anywhere.

I will give one example of a "dreamer" that I know of personally. He lives in northern Arizona. He was brought here as a 3 year old child. Today his parents are both dead. He knows nobody in his native country. He does not even speak the language.
He graduated high school and works in construction.

Why should he be punished? He did not break the law, his parents did. Where would you deport him to?

By the way, I thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall. Instead we taxpayers are on the hook.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - CPT Gregory Hafera didn't insult any RPer, you just don't like what he said, so you gave him a down vote. He is half right in his thought. When the 80s amnesty went through, it was supposed to be the start of immigration reform. BOTH sides (not just "your" side) lied and here we are, 35 (+/-) years later and politicians are arguing about the same things. Maybe if the lawmakers would have fixed it, in the 80s, MSG Stan Hutchison dreamer wouldn't be in this situation.

Good article. Perhaps one of the problems coming to grips with this is the desire to make it comprehensive immigration reform, and we should just bite off this one chunk: a legal path for DACA only.

That is what the Dems have pushed for for a long time now, but the Repubs block it every time.
