The bottom line is these are still wild animals and if not for the barriers You would be their food ! Good thing to remember whenever You or Your family, friends etc are at the Zoo !

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter Except penguins. Penguins are awesome. I have had the opportunity to interact with penguins, and they have great personality. Though they also shoot poop around six feet, so beware the firing arc and effective range. It amazes me that there are people who want to treat wild animals, even in a zoo or preserve, the same way they treat domestic animals. Then they wonder why they got attacked, and the animal gets put down.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - For sure, they fail to have even a basic understanding of these animals then the animal ends up paying for the ignorance of the human visitor.

I was at a zoo in Europe somewhere, walking through a glass room with killer whales on the other side. There was a small woman wearing a hat that looked like a baby seal. It was hilarious to watch the whale attack the glass trying to get lunch.

LTC (Join to see) Whales are amazing animals. I love the video from sea world of the Orca that grabbed a pelican that had gotten cocky.

I was four and we were at the zoo and Uncle Norman was yelling at the lion trying to get him to "pose" better. The lion got up - almost as if it was listening to uncle - and walked right up to the bars. Uncle Norman turned to us to give us that "see - that's how you gotta treat 'em" look when the lion cocked his leg and proceeded to urinate all over uncle Norman. Now...I should preface by saying dad's side of the family are all from Jersey so there was no shock, just a mad rush to see who could tease him about it the quickest.

PO3 Donald Murphy It's all fun and games until the realization that someone is going to have to ride in the car home with Uncle Norman, lion pee and all.
We were at the Albuquerque Zoo at the lowland gorilla enclosure. First there was a gorilla who scratched his butt, then sniffed it and reacted horribly. So same gorilla picked up a stick, scratched his butt, and put it under the nose of another gorilla. The second gorilla hauled off and slapped the first gorilla. Which was funny, but it got better. My brother started making faces at the gorilla, and the gorilla charged. The gorilla hit the glass, and pulled a full looney tunes sliding down the glass after hitting it. My brother was on the other side of the viewing area standing in a puddle of his own making.
