The government just shut down. What next?

Why is this even happening in our great nation? We are being held hostage by our government. We should never allow our military troops to not get paid. I think if the government shuts down all of the Senators and Congress and anyone else at the White House should not get paid either. If you told all of them they weren't gonna get paid either, they could come up with a plan pretty quick.
