What are your thoughts on this article? While many truisms are described, I think it fails to define the fact that both, besides having the US as an enemy, need their present type of government to survive.
In my opinion it tends to suggest a Strategy of Appeasement on the part of ASEAN and Australia, this is a Failed Strategy which never works with bullies, the ocean equivalent of drawing red lines in the sand which then turn pink.

with BHO and HRC around we will have our Navy reduced to little more than an Out-reach arm of the Coast Guard...

Both Russia & China have aspirations to a blue-water navy. The exercises indicate (to me) plans toward challenging US supremacy in the Pacific. In the event we lose that supremacy, most of the island nations such as the Philippines will shift allegiance to the new big dog(s).

Philippines already on that course, we are out of Subic Bay and their president is seeking alliance with China, remember, the Philippines were the winner of dispute at World Court, now they need to extend gesture to their giant next door.

Yeah, i was in Subic when it was handed back over to the RoP... something distinctly weird about RoP Marines on the gate instead of US Marines. and this is nothing new. the New Peoples Army was stomping around Luzon since the late 1960's...

I think we take for granted that it has taken us over 200 years to get where we are as a nation. Countries have to do what works for them. We could only hope that one day the whole world will see our 'experiment' as a viable way to govern.
