One hundred years ago, some one person, somewhere, got sick. Before this single illness became a worldwide pandemic, 50-100 million people would die. One victim was my wife’s great grandfather, a country doctor living in a small SW Iowa farm town, where he lies buried amongst several of his patients. Medical experts today say a repeat of this unprecedented health calamity is not a matter of “if,” but “when.”
