GRUNT stands for ground replacement usually not trained and was another term for cannon fodder SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. As an infantryman I never referred to myself or the soldiers I served with as grunts.
One of the saddest facts about the radical leftists who hated the military service members in the late 1960s is that many of them are now holding high office in the government - legislators, judges, officials at all levels.

Thanks SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I have no sympathy for these Vietnam War protestors who took it out on us, even to this day 45 years after I left Vietnam. The reputation given to us was uncalled for, undeserved and a travesty to an entire generation. Even my own future father in law, a WWII veteran asked me when I first met him if I was a baby killer and drug addict. That is what these protestors did to us. I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR THEM.

But, I might add, every war is a grunt war. They pull the triggers and die in the greatest numbers.
