I find it interesting that several people have claimed that this impeachment effort is being handled the same as Nixon and Clinton. For now, I am going to focus on Nixon. While this happened when I was 9-13 years old, I was "aware" it was happening.
What I find interesting is I can find NO documentation of an (1) Impeachment Inquiry (2) run by the Dems (3) behind closed doors where only (4) certain witnesses were called and (5) coached on answers or (6) told not to answer that question from a Republican.
Quite the opposite in fact.

"The Senate Select Committee began televised hearings on May 17."
"The new Special Prosecutor, Leon Jaworski, who had been appointed by the Justice Department, pursued Nixon's tapes all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. On July 24, 1974, the Court unanimously ruled that Nixon had to surrender the tapes."
"On Saturday, July 27 [1974], the House Judiciary Committee approved its first article of impeachment charging President Nixon with obstruction of justice. Six of the Committee's 17 Republicans joined all 21 Democrats in voting for the article. The following Monday the Committee approved its second article charging Nixon with abuse of power. The next day, the third and final article, contempt of Congress, was approved."
It was the Senate, not the House, that started the legal ball rolling. While not yet in a court of law, they none-the-less started it. When the hearings started they were not behind closed doors, they were televised. It was a years long process until the tapes (and documents) were finally reviewed. Then it was a bi-partisan articles of impeachment from the house *AFTER* the special prosecutor had enough evidence.

The corrupt democrats have been working to impeach President Trump since he was elected in November 2016.

LTC Stephen F. - your post was misleading. I pointed out that there were closed depositions in both of the other inquiries.
I could have added that the Gowdy investigation into Hillary had a great deal of closed sessions. Why was that OK, but not for Trump?

It's somewhat like the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, but nothing like that of Nixon. There is no impeachable offense, at least none that has been based on evidence. This is purely an effort to reverse the outcome of an election. The Democrats would have been far better off finding a suitable candidate to run against President Trump next year. This whole impeachment effort appears to be evidence that they have failed in that effort

Capt Gregory Prickett - After 2 years the special investigation concluded there was nothing to charge Trump with. Nothing was handed over to the DOJ to investigate. Unlike Clinton and Nixon. I understand you ***HATE*** Trump. Good for you. You are set in your ***OPINION***, have seen all the evidence you need to see and have tried him and found him guilty - all in your mind. You are unwilling to leave your own paradigm on the matter.
I, personally, do not like the man all that much. I do like what he has done for our country - mostly. I would not seek him out as a friend. If we met at a party I would be just as cordial to him as anyone else there. And that is the problem with snapshots taken at parties. However, I voted for him based on "promises" made by him that affect my life. So far, he has fulfilled more promises than any other President I have ever voted for.
My wife and I were Bill Clinton supporters and voted for him twice. Not a single promise he made - that we would be positively affected by - came to fruition. Not one. In 8 years - not - a - single - one.
It appears to me with your hate for the man that you see everything he does is poison. How could it be otherwise?

SSgt (Join to see) - Please do not lie about what the Special Report said. What Mueller pointed out in the Report was that DOJ policy prohibited him from criminally charging a sitting president. He then laid out evidence for multiple counts of obstruction of justice by Trump, and when question by a GOP member of the House, emphatically stated that Trump could be charged with obstruction the moment that he left office.
Second, I don't hate Trump, I merely think that he's a con man, a criminal, and morally unfit to be in office. He's accomplished very little of what he has promised, but he is a con man and manages to convince people that he has. For example, on the border wall, not a single new mile of wall has been built, and Mexico isn't paying for it. On reducing the debt? Not even close. He was going to make us more respected in the international community, and with the exception of dictators, we are less respected. In economic areas, he's promised to do better than Obama, but the steel, coal, and general manufacturing are collapsing. The areas of metals, machinery, textiles, paper, petroleum, and coal have all had two consecutive quarters of production downturns.
Has he done some good things? Sure. The nomination of Gorsuch to SCOTUS was great, as was the nomination of Willet to the Fifth Circuit, along with others.
Look, you may be OK with a racist in the White House, with someone who lies when the truth would serve him better, who mistreats women, a serial adulterer, and so on. I'm not.
