So to save a bunch of bees they are going to kill a cartoon bee? Yep, that makes sense.

It is bizarre that General Mills would do away with the lovable bee mascot of Honey Nut Cheerios for the seemingly flippant reason that the bee population has been decimated in many places Maj Marty Hogan
The children who the bee mascot appeals to love the character and can differentiate between an image and real bees.
I suppose there may be a campaign to do away with spelling bees and other terms with bees in it such as beeswax :-)
Periodically bee populations have been decimated in the past - that is part of the cycle of life :-)
I am thankful that "General Mills is teaming with Vesey's Seeds to plant wildflowers all over the country so that BuzzBee and his bee pals can have plenty of lands and open space to do their job: pollinate. It makes sense, too, because about 30% of the ingredients in General Mills' products (cereals and snacks alike) rely on pollinators. Honey Nut Cheerios has pledged that by 2020, oat farms that supply General Mills will set aside 3,300 acres of land dedicated to pollinators. Past efforts to preserve land for bees and pollinators have doubled the pollinator population and with this new initiative, the cereal giant hopes to bring bees back — and its beloved mascot, too."
