The MeK is an interesting group. I was at Camp Ashraf/FOB Grizzly from 2006-2010, their HQ was in Ashraf Iraq at the time. The TIF held those that were trying to leave the group. The UN and State Dept were involved in resettling them around Europe. They had offices on the FOB across the road from my site. They were always probing us for info, trying to invite us for some celebratory meal.
The town Ashraf had a gated entrance aka Lion's Gate (photo), the FOB was located inside. The Iraqi Army started attacking them in 2009. It got kind of crazy.
They were just like the article states, very segregated between the sexes, no children allowed, rigid indoctrination. I would call them cult-like.
