I put the USS MISSISSIPPI (CGN-40) to rest, our last cruise was from Pascagoula to Norfolk. We departed with 175 tigers on board (my dad being one) made it all the way to the Georgia border in the Atlantic then had to turn around. Rafted with a Coast Guard cutter the next morning to detach our civilians then spent the next week off of the coast of Cuba because of the group "Brothers to the Rescue" I loved that cruiser, it was huge compared to the other cruisers and destroyers I served on.

Just off the coast of Homer Alaska, I got promoted on the main deck of USS Arkansas during this Alaska voyage before we visited Anchorage. They took the photo with her 5-inch gun pointed at my head. Technically, I accepted the promotion at gun point. Great Share!
