The President compliments someone on their appearance, and the press has a conniption accusing him of sexism. His compliment was made both to Brigitte Macron and to her husband President Emmanuel Macron who was standing right there with them.
I personally would be flattered if someone told me I was in good shape and looked good. But then I don't melt when left in the sun either.
This incessant need of the press to find something, anything, to defame the President has gotten out of hand. It has become very old and very bothersome.

Aren't we and weren't we as service members always told be professional in everything we do, especially when it comes to 2nd and 3rd order effects? Does that not apply to the POTUS as well?

MSG Tom Earley - That's too easy an out, IMHO. Every person, at some basic level, knows what right looks like and people in leadership positions SHOULD have a level of decorum or at the very least, some home training.

Yeah I can see it now. I tell the wife of a fellow peer officer "you're in such good shape. looking good." Yeah that would go over so well with the husband and those in earshot. Compliments are welcome, how you phrase those compliments can create a perception that deserves criticism. So nothing new here with Trump. His usual awkward way of communicating where we need Captain Subtext to help us decipher it. LOL!

A gentleman would offer the compliment in this way: "You look very nice today".......or......."what a lovely dress." "You're in such good shape" is commenting on a woman's body.....which a gentleman doesn't do. It's akin to saying something like: Nice legs, lady.........or........Nice rack. He may have meant well (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that).....but he does not exhibit anything close to proper manners.

Agreed. I keep asking others on RP, would you make a similar comment to the wife of a fellow officer or military leader? That's the perspective we need to have when examining the comments made by a President. Remember how the media was mocking Joe Biden for how handsy he got when he met spouses of individuals being recognized for something. This is similar criticism.

PO1 John Crafton - Trump is a described womanizer so anything he says will have the context scrutinized by media. Biden's behavior was also subject to scrutiny by the media. So yeah apples-apples when it comes to media scrutinizing the comments or behavior of both men.
Would you like to try again?

PO1 John Crafton - Why do I bother? You're one of those "if Trump shoots someone in the street in the middle of NYC" you'd still support him as president individuals. You go out of your way to defend him no matter what. Note you dismiss all the accusations of sexual assault and harassment, womanizing behavior and comments of Trump. But hey, perhaps you don't mind a stranger or buddy telling your wife "you're in such good shape" at a meet and greet that has nothing to do with fitness or health. That's okay, that's your prerogative.

PO1 John Crafton - Do come down to my level where blind loyalty and independent thought still exist. Media scrutiny of context of behavior and comments by Trump and Biden is similar. Allegations, settlements to avoid what would be revealed in court under oath and conceal depositions, and only his own comments on video and audio; yes, by all means dismiss it. Last time I heard, there's a such thing as inappropriate verbal (Trump) and non-verbal (Biden) behavior; thus, apples to apples.
Nice try though.

*sigh* You do not make remarks about a woman's body unless it's appropriate to the conversation. He's still a classless idiot.

SSG Jessica Bautista - I always hope that you will refrain from the ad hominem attacks...

CPT Jack Durish - Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what the subject of the conversation was during this meet and greet.

Maybe Mrs Macron told him something like 'oh Mr President your hair is in such good shape' so he responded in such a fashion. Even then a President shouldn't comment on a woman's body (assuming this is true). I guess the dilema here is should we accept this as the new presidential standard or should we continue wasting our time talking about it.
