The only weapons system named after an enlisted man and what a POS. I post this to remind us that every time some one says we should buy it because it is cheaper know and we can work out the flaws, is really an idiot in a suit. We the American taxpayer thank you for your service, and accept your resignation.

As a SHORAD officer we knew the limitations of our weapon systems. The Chaparral and Vulcan were pieced together systems with very limited capabilities. One needs to remember that the USAF controls Air Defense, and that these Army weapon systems were restricted to line of sight. A 1980's reports demonstrated that the M1 and M2 were more effective against forward area air threats than existing SHORAD weapon systems. Not only was the DIVAD a failure but so was the Roland, which remained in the NMARNG.
