We needed one in Korea. The biggest way the Marines are different from the Army is Boot Camp. A different sort of person joins the Marine Corp. They are broken down mentally and trained to the Marine Corp standards, Taught Marine Corp history so they know what is expected of them. The Marines started the raiders again so they would be relevant. Harry Truman didn't like the Marines. He called them "Sea going Bellhops". They do more with less. Seems like we always have to prove ourselves. We were never a land Army we originated in 1775 to fight aboard ships I could go on and on but at sea. different concept. The Marines were sent in first. Guadalcanal , Korea, and in Vietnam. I was in the Marine Corp 59-63 and in the Army from 63-66. Big difference. The army doesn't have the discipline the Marine Corp has. Semper Fi.

I particularly like the notion of enabling junior leaders to make decisions on the ground when time isn't available to get clearance from an O-5 for example

Lean and mean. I love it. Now, change that PTF back up to hard as hell to reach 285 and kick out the food blisters. Have a good day SSG.
