The Marine Corps is Experimenting With a New Service Rifle

My unit had an IAR for every team, and we still had one 249 per squad. I personally love the IAR and would welcome it in replacing the M4.

I suspect that the IAR will make a better service rifle than it does SAW. I'm not a fan of the M249, but I have a hard time seeing it replaced with a magazine fed weapon without a changeable barrel. I suspect that the Marines will eventually switch back to a standard light machine gun for their SAW. I'm also not convinced that piston driven is inherently any more reliable than direct impingement.

Looks like they are trying to get rid of 249s, not getting a new service rifle
