And by the way.... this will happen almost overnight. Like the many uniform changes the Army went through, the Sailors, like the Soldiers, will be "punked" into immediately changing the insignia, regardless of wear-out date.

Your correct, they have already taken all the Rates out of any Articles, they are writing, and anyone who is Retiring the Rates have been taken off of certificates already, so you could have a YNC, and it does not have that, just states Chief Petty Officer. Not letting someone who has given 20 or more years the right to have their Rate is wrong.

CPO (Join to see) - You are so right Chief. At the very least they should allow them to retire with their rate. I think that 20 plus years of service to this nation should grant you the privilege of retiring with your rate intact. I also agree with MSG David Rogers III that they are going to get hit with this overnight. It will be a boot camp class that comes out without attention to ratings expecting everyone they encounter to alter their perception rather than adapting to the culture. It is a small thing in the long run, but our military (regardless of branch) is based on traditions. If they take away the traditions, they take away the pride that goes with them. Bad idea.

I do not see where the gain is for the Navy Department. Sailors love the current system, it is historical, why change it? The give a lot of reasons, and try to make Sailors believe it is for the best, but if they are getting so much negative feedback, why pursue it? Is someone at the highest level doing this so he/she can add their name to the Navy/s history books, by single-handedly changing this history?

MSG David Rogers III I think you pretty much nailed it. It is going to be some asshat's legacy. It won't be the legacy of helping develop some great new technology that makes sailors safer at sea, or some great new weapon that allows us to clear the way for the Marines and Army to advance, nope the legacy will be destroying tradition in the name of Political Correctness.
