The Navy Will No Longer Restrict Sailors To The Brig On Bread And Water

3 days bread and water worked. As assigned as a shipboard master at arms I got the pleasure of escorting several sailors to the brig for the day's bread and water. One sailor twice, and on the second time when the Marines syrup searched him at the brig he had stuffed candy bars all over himself. I guess he was a glutton for punishment.

You gotta read the fine print; it's replacement is Keel Hauling, and the old rules still apply. You only need to survive one trip!

Never seen this punishment given out. Not sure I would have ever used it if warranted. Always felt that if you had to resort to bread and water, the entire Chain of Command failed to lead....
