COL Ted Mc I disagree. Yesterday, when this tragedy hit, you couldn't get to a blood center, they were beyond capacity. People came out. They volunteered blood, food, drink, and money to help in anyway they could. Politics went out the window. The community came together and was taking care of their own. Additionally, I saw people who are conservatives and opposed to everything that LGBT community stands for coming out and saying that this was an unconscionable event. I saw gun nuts with their AR-15 magazines wrapped in rainbow colored tape. I think that it is more sad that it takes something like this to bring Americans together as one.

COL Ted Mc - I sincerely hope that does not happen. It would be a sad day for our nation. Though we have had many of those already when it comes to discourse over civil liberties, rights, and humanity.

No, that would not suffice. In every conflict America has generally divided itself into thirds. For example, during the American Revolution, about one third of the colonists were Rebels, one third Tories, and one third headed for the hills (and beyond) to avoid the whole mess. Civil War? Same thing. One third Yankees. One third Rebels. One third headed for the western territories (the Union had to recruit Europeans to fight the battles for them). Now here we are again. Divided. There's nothing new about it...

CPT Jack Durish - Captain; Your 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3 ratio is about right (most of the time) - WWII was an exception (but, then again, "The Enemy" wasn't even remotely "American").
And when the country WAS divided, each faction used every resource (including "terrorism") at its disposal to attack and/or vilify ALL of the other factions.
That isn't in the least bit unusual - for ANY country.

Americans, true Americans, regardless of race and all that will unite, as we always have... they problem is we don't have as many true Americans, as even in 911. People don't assimilate anymore, and more groups have sought their own identity within the USA.

Everyone is their own special snowflake. In the unlikely scenario that the US were invaded, you'd probably have half the people ready to throw down and repel borders. The other half would be yelling at us about trampling the invaders' constitutional rights.
