That's about the truth. Not that I have any great photos -- and therein hangs a tale.

Sgt Albert Castro - We had actually parked on Rector St, and were walking to the World Trade Center -- intent on taking the elevator to the observation deck that fateful morning. But something happened that neither my daughter or I can recall clearly -- even twenty minutes later. One of us, and we can't recall which, stopped, turned to the other and said, "Let's not go there. Let's head up to Time Square instead." We walked back to her car and were nearly to Time Square when all hell broke loose.
I actually had to lie to my daughter perhaps a half hour later. A lie I finally had to tell her about maybe two years later because it ate at me so. But the truth may have affected her driving and the most important thing to me at the moment was getting my little girl off of Manhattan. We got caught in gridlock at 34th St and 5th Ave when she asked, "What's the third tallest building in New York?" I could see the wheels in her mind turning, as terrorists had already crashed into the two tallest.
We were right next to the Empire State Building so I replied, "Trump Tower." It was a mile away and I needed her to not panic. I figured she wouldn't know it was only about half the size of the Empire State Building, but it was all I could think of on short notice. (Thank you Donald Trump) We made it off the Island and safely way. But it really ate at me, having to lie to her. She understood when I finally told her the truth.
Come to think of it, I guess I have one other cool family picture -- as the comedian mentions in his mono-log. I took the accompanying picture the night before -- as the sun set on the Twin Towers for the last time ever. Who'd have thought it would ever matter? Certainly not me...

I don't know if I am old, or just getting old, but time is flying whether I am having fun or not. I would rather allow extra travel-time than rush to get somewhere, and I would rather be thirty-minutes early than one-minute late. All of my kids are in their thirties, and I have been out of the Army for forty-two years, so I have been out of the Army twice as long as the age I was when I got out. I lost my middle daughter to cancer in 2018, but I thought that our kids were supposed to bury us, not us bury them. There is something wrong with that equation. I can also ramble...

My condolence on the loss of your daughter. Age is but a number. I'm 15 years old with 60 years experience. The best part of being a man is that I can wear a beard to hide my wrinkles.

TSgt George Rodriguez Yes, we don't have to be "pretty-boys" any more, and gray and white are starting to look just fine in my hair.

We are not supposed to bury our children or grandchildren...there is definitely something wrong with that picture. Unfortunately, we don't always get to paint life the way we want it to be. My heart goes out to you.
