That was a VERY interesting read. I never found it to be issue with my HHGs, most of the time I was barely at 50% of the allowance when I was married with two kids. I'm sure some come closer to their allowance and I agree with the author's comment but really, do you really have over 11,000 pounds of stuff?? ;-)

Think back 10 years when TV's and TV furniture was HEAVY, as opposed to 15~lb flatscreens, and wall mounts. When we couldn't buy Ikea furniture.

I remember Gunnies giving away old couches because it was cheaper to buy new ones when they got to their new duty stations than to ship the ones they had.

With 4 kids yes I had easily 11K .....hell just bedrooms sets, tvs, bikes, toys....I probably had 6-7K alone.....not like I wanted to buy cheap press board crap that was going to break everytime I moved....I actually went over weight on more than one move and had to get waviers for the weight.....doable....but was a pain in the put.....btw 300lbs extra per kids is not enough....my son's bed room set weight probably 800lb alone....anyway glad I don't have to mess with that anymore.

Excellent article, because it shows the flaw in the logic.

I do like the idea of TIS being the major factor as opposed to rank, as "gear accumulates over time, not necessarily with rank."
