THE OLD MAN Official Trailer (2022)

This is one of the best shows that I've ever seen on American TV. If I were teaching creative writing or film making, I would use it as an entire course in storytelling.

Take, for example, the principle known as "Chekov's Gun" (NOTE: The Chekhov Gun is actually reference to a literary technique known as Chekhov's gun, whereby an element is introduced early in the story, but its significance does not become clear until later in the narrative. The concept is named after Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, who mentioned several variants of the concept in letters.) Most people think it refers specifically to guns, but it doesn't. It can refer to any story element or any object that appears as the focus of the camera, even if only briefly. If you watch this show, pay attention to the Old Man's story of learning to cook. It is the set up to one of the most powerful scenes that appears later in the story and when you see it, you should understand what I mean.
