Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that ubiquitous High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) began to replace the jeep.
I remember that when the M-151 Jeep I was riding in flipped or got stuck, my driver and I could get the vehicle back on its wheels and drive away.
The HMMWV M998 four-wheel drive military light truck was a troop carrier which largely replaced green pickup trucks, the M151 series jeeps, and to some degree they filled the requirement for the deuce and a half in its troop carrying role in low-threat environments.
In those days we had armored personnel carriers and soon the Bradley fighting vehicles were beginning to replace the ubiquitous M113 series of APCs for operating in higher threat environments .
Of course, in this century since the enemy gets a vote, our non-state acting and state actor enemies worked on ways to destroy the HMMWV and wound as many people as possible since they knew we would go back for our wounded since we don't leave people behind.

Great vehicle to drive, but still preferred the old M151A3's.
