I am not surprised. Why would you go back to that sh-t hole if you could find a way to stay here even if it isn't legal?

I suppose I really could see the logic in that viewpoint, certainly, despite my initial dumbfounded amazement, of course....

When I was at Lackland, doing USAF OTS, I'd been in the cafeteria one day, when I happened to be sitting with another OT who'd apparently been sent there before being sent eventually for UPT for pilot from Iran, evidently back when it had been under the Shah...also interestingly, as I've related on here a couple of times, I'd been walking between bldgs at the school one day, and was staring at Wilford Hall hospital across the fence outside Medina Annex on Lackland, when I heard, purely by accidental coincidence, being in just the right place, at just the right time, facing in exactly the right direction, this positively unreal roar of motorcade sirens in the distance, and watched as they all pulled into the overhang outside the hospital lobby, red lights flashing, with police motorcycles leading the way...it was apparently the motorcade for the Shah, who'd just been allowed in that very day by Pres. Carter for chemotherapy, I'd been told or had read, later on that day...I'd always wondered ever after what eventually happened to those poor Iranian guys who'd been let in to go through USAF OTS, then to be sent to UPT for pilot and UNT for nav, after the Shah had to leave, since they obviously couldn't go back, of course, after the whole thing happened...I certainly never asked, of course, as it was obviously none of my beeswax, certainly...still, I've always kinda wondered about them, ever since then...when I read the piece here, that story here made me think of what I'd seen back then...I just figured you might all find that of interest, I mean, it was obviously four decades ago, of course (God, did I really just say that? Wow, do I feel like a dinosaur saying that....)...still, i just figured you might all find it an interesting comparison, at any rate...a good many of us there saw those Iranian guys at the school, many times, not just myself, but many of those I'd trained with, obviously, also, just figured I'd mention that as well, purely as food for thought, at any rate....
