This really hits home... I got out of active duty voluntarily due to this starting to happen when the second massive down sizing started. I saw the trend even then and we had another deployment ramping up for 82nd Aviation, the kids that they were sending didn't have half of the training we had a couple years prior. So I decided it was time to cut cord and pull my reserve.
The other portion that was not mentioned was the kids they are letting in now have very little respect or discipline compared to when I came in. That started to fall apart in my opinion when we stopped shinning boots and ironing our uniforms.

oh god, here we go. Another "The discipline isnt what it used to be" guess what buddy, i bet the guys before you said the same thing and the guys before them the same about them. It's called change, its not for better or worse. Stop trying to use Joe as a scapegoat for inadequate and sub par leadership. If joe has a discipline problem, its probably his NCOs problem for not fixing it. That is the job of an NCO, yet all i hear throughout the Army is piss poor NCOs using Joe as a scapegoat.

And here we go again with another "It's the NCOs fault for the lack of discipline" statements. Try being where I am and told you aren't allowed to do corrective training in a soldier. At all. Not 1 single push-up. Or that we, as NCOs, aren't authorized to evaluate a casualty. All we can do is throw an ice sheet on them. How about telling soldiers they have to roll their pants while working because of heat cat V? I'm not allowed to yell at a soldier. I'm not even allowed to call them soldiers anymore. It has to be "warrior." This is what lower enlisted see from the time they come in the Army now and we expect them to have discipline. Right. Tell me again how to swim with my hands tied to my back and my feet in cement blocks...

You can't improve moral if there isn't any in the first place. I talk to Soldiers everyday, and the only thing I here is either "I am so happy to leave this place" or "I am so happy to get away from the military." If you have Soldiers thinking like this and letting people know their feelings, shouldn't the top tier actually be listening?
